Think of summer and what pops into your head? You probably see images of swimsuits, suntans…and waxing. True, you don’t need to wax. You can always opt for shaving instead, but if you’re tired of razor burn and having to shave – often – you probably want to opt for a wax instead.
The first thing to do is to stop shaving. Your hair needs to be at least one-quarter inch long to make sure the wax will grip properly. It really won’t take too long to grow out, and you’ll be much happier in the long run.
A few days prior to your appointment, be sure to exfoliate really, really well. Use a loofah and some scrub and get right into it. This will not only take off any dead skin cells, it will also help loosen up those hairs that you’re hoping to eliminate.
After your appointment, you can use a bag of frozen peas to help soothe any pain you may feel in more tender regions. You can also use some Advil or Tylenol – some women even pop a couple just prior to the appointment as a preventative.
A couple of days after your appointment, you can start exfoliating again each time you shower. Be a bit gentle with it this time. You’re looking to stimulate skin regeneration to decrease the likelihood of ingrown hairs rather than remove layers of dead skin.
And, as always, be sure to keep yourself well hydrated both inside and out. The warmth of summer and its associated activities means that you’ll be perspiring more. Also, warm sun, salt water and chlorine have a drying effect. It’s no use having a great wax if your skin is gasping for moisture.
