It’s officially summer…finally! Sunny days, warm nights, and loads of fun things to do mean that your wardrobe has most likely become skimpier as the days have grown longer. And that means it’s time to pay special attention to your waxing routine. Even if you let it slip over the winter, there’s no time like the present to get back on track, and here are some tips to help you get the most from your appointment.
Remember that the wax needs to get a good grip on the hair you want to remove, no matter where it happens to be on your body. That means you’ll need to let it grow to at least one-quarter inch in length before heading to your appointment. Exfoliating the area a couple of days prior to your appointment will help too. By getting rid of the surface layer of dead skin cells, those unwanted hairs will be easier to remove.
Whether or not to take an over-the-counter pain reliever about a half hour before your appointment is up to you. If you’re a veteran waxer, you probably don’t need it. Your hair will be finer and easier to remove after so many prior waxes. But if you’re new to the game, you may want to consider it especially if you’ll be waxing a sensitive area. Everyone should make sure they’re properly hydrated before a waxing appointment, newbies and veterans alike. This will keep your skin cells plump and give you smoother results.
After waxing be sure to apply moisturizer regularly, but skip applying it just before your appointment. Waxing is all about the grip, and slippery skin won’t let the wax adhere as well. Your newly smooth skin will want to be protected from the sun too, especially during the first day or two after your appointment. Cover both the moisturizing and sun protection issues by using a hydrating product that contains a sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
