Going Green

Five Senses Spa and Salon has defined “Going Green” as a way to take steps to reduce negative effects on people and the environment in which we live in.  Although we can not be perfect, we can certainly be aware and pursue avenues to become better.

Five Senses Spa and Salon finds it extremely important to be socially responsible.  We must do our part in reducing waste, recycling, preserving energy, reusing appropriate items in appropriate ways, etc.  At Five Senses, we are eager to help the world sustain its five senses by helping the world look, smell, taste, sound and feel better.

Five Senses is making efforts to encourage our staff and guests to also participate in Going Green.  Our ideas are always evolving as we continue to consider new manageable ways to be Green. The following are some of the commitments Five Senses has made in Going Green:

  • Aveda! Aveda! Aveda! - We are proud to have aligned ourselves with a very socially responsible vendor.
  • Aveda's Responsible Packaging - Aveda is mindful of the need to reduce our environmental footprint in every package they develop. They achieve this by minimizing the packaging, maximizing the use of post-consumer recycled materials, using materials that can be and are recyclable, and by designing our packaging so that the individual parts can be separated for recycling. Aveda also works with suppliers who manufacture our packaging materials using renewable energy.
  • Wind Energy - By committing to alternative energy sources like Windsource® Aveda can all have an impact on the energy we consume and help lower our carbon footprint. Wind energy is produced without air emissions like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, uses no water and requires no water treatment during production.
  • Aveda Recycling Bottle Caps - Bottle caps often end up as litter or trash, ending up in landfills and beaches or migrating into our rivers and oceans. Birds and other marine creatures mistake them for food with tragic results. Aveda announced a new recycling initiative that helps extend the current boundaries of recycling with their Recycle Caps with Aveda initiative.

Five Senses has joined Aveda's effort, and have placed collection bins at our facility for public and employee collection.

  • Recycling Program – We have designated areas for recyclable plastics, paper, glass, etc. for the products that we use on our guests.
  • Energy Efficiency – Five Senses had made the major investment of becoming more energy efficient.  This is achieved by our choices in our equipment, and most importantly, light bulbs and auto-shut off lights.
  • Facility Efficiency - Fall 2008, we re-carpeted the spa hallway with recyclable carpet tile using recycled materials.  Fall 2009, we installed a major Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning unit to create zones within our facility to become more energy efficient and comfortable with our temperature settings.
